الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
"Praise be to God, Lord of the Universe." [Holy Quran, 1:2]
Application in everyday life: We should be grateful to Allah and show our gratefulness by saying alhamdulillah. We should do this, for example, when we press the Power button on the computer and it turns on.
Alhamdu-lillah literally means "The credit is all Allah's." It means, "It is by Allah's grace that I exist, that I know Him, and that this thing exists that I am grateful about." It is a great expression of submission to Allah.
