Some of you might be in the market for a new laptop. I am not. But for those of you who are, here is some information that will help you make a smarter decision when choosing a laptop.

Recently Engadget (a popular gadget blog) released a chart that shows the durability of many popular laptop brands.

Worst laptops
According to the chart, HP, Gateway, and Acer laptops have the highest rate of failures after three years of operation. Stay away from these.

Best laptops
Asus, Toshiba and Sony come on top of the list as the best laptops. They had the lowest rate of failures after three years of operation.

Why didnt you publish this post earlier, i bought a gateway laptop recently and it is failing on me like crazy, actually right now i am using the internet cafe to work on my blog, so you said it right; stay away from gateway specially, it is really a turn down.

As Salaamu Alaikum,

Thanks to everyone for commenting.

@Elfatih, I'm sad that your laptop is giving you trouble. But maybe it is because of the laptop's features? These brands can all perform well at first, then the bad ones will go evil after a year or two.

@Anonymous,

About Macs, the chart shows Apple near the middle. So Macs are better than HP and Gateway, but not better than Asus, Toshiba, and Sony.

Interesting. Because I have had computer repairmen tell me that Acer and Toshiba are both made by the same company.

-

Abumubarak, i have also heard that before but it was slightly different because the guy who told me that these marks are made by the same company, he didn't mean that they are under one brand he meant that they are made by the same ODM {original design manufacturer} and these ODM's manufacture laptops from various brands depending on region, for example in Malaysia, dell, acer, hp, and Toshiba use the same ODM but not all of them have the same designs or structural specs except for asus because it has its own independent ODM in the pacific Asian region. hope that sorts it out for you, salaam
